Practical Approaches to Handling Pressure: Open Course
Overview
This is a very straight talking course that starts by discussing the different types of pressure we all experience and why it is a double-edged sword that can both help and hinder our performance and well-being. Managed well, pressure is extremely positive as it provides the incentive and motivation that enables us to meet our targets and achieve professional satisfaction. However if managed badly, pressure can become excessive which can lead to a reduction in motivation, poor performance and threaten our health and work-life balance.
After clarifying what pressure is and how it affects us as individuals, delegates are introduced to a variety of strategies they can use to manage it more effectively. It is a key element of this course that delegates are able to choose the strategies and techniques they feel will work best for them. Emphasis is also placed on how new skills can be acquired through practice and used to manage the pressure they experience.
The course concludes with the preparation of individual action plans. Delegates are encouraged to identify the sources of pressure they need to address and using the action plan schedule from the course workbook decide how and when they will apply the approaches that have been discussed, to their own situations.
