Stress Risk Assessment Consultancy

The HSE have published the 2008 Management Standards for Workplace Stress.

The main benefit of the standards is that if you are planning a survey to assess the risk of stress in your organisation we can now compare the results with national averages based on real survey data.  This results in more realistic improvement targets and will make it easier to identify stress hot spots and areas of good practice. All employers must conduct risk assessments under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999. This should now include assessing risks to mental health and well-being from stress at work. Stress should be regarded in the same way as any other health hazard according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

In November 2004, HSE launched Stress Management Standards, which divide stress hazards into 6 categories of Demands, Control, Support (management support and peer support), Relationships, Role, and Change.

The 6 categories provide in effect a ‘template’ that should be used for conducting stress risk assessments.

In Equilibrium can provide support at a number of points in the stress risk assessment process:

  • Consultancy support before you conduct a survey e.g. designing sector-specific questions
  • Help with interpretation of data, action planning, focus groups, design of interventions, Evaluation and review of actions
