A Quick Stress Tip

No-one is an island and the way we are effects not only ourselves but also those around us, both at home and at work.

This exercise offers a useful way to address our negative thoughts when we find ourselves worrying about, or feeling stressed by, a current problem or situation:

  • In your mind’s eye, stand back from it for a moment
  • Close your eyes
  • Imagine yourself as an octo or nonagenarian with a lifetime of experience and wisdom to offer
  • What advice would you give to your younger self about dealing with the current problem or situation?
  • As you think about the guidance your older self offers, do you notice a positive change in the way you feel about the issue?

Sometimes a problem shared is a problem halved … and sometimes we are in the best position to change how we feel about something by standing back and seeing it from a different perspective.

Life’s tragedy is that we get old too soon and wise too late

Benjamin Franklin
