

Professor Derek Mowbray BA., MSc., MSc(Econ)., PhD., DipPsych., CPsychol., CSci., FIHM
Professor Derek Mowbray is a Chartered Psychologist and Fellow of the Institute of Healthcare Management. He is widely recognised as an expert in issues of organisation, leadership and the prevention of mental distress and stress at work and the promotion of sustainable healthy organisation as healthy workplaces.
Derek Mowbray is a visiting Professor of Psychology at Northumbria University and an Independent Technical Expert for the European Commission, in which capacity he has reviewed the health services in Lithuania, Romania and Turkey. He has also acted as an advisor to the Governments of the UK, Ireland, USA, New Zealand and New South Wales, Australia.
Professor Mowbray has a special interest in occupational health psychology which aims to harmonise the relationship between the organisation and working individual. His psychology doctorate researched the influences on a leader when taking decisions. Professor Mowbray has published on the link between effective leadership, reduction in stress and risk and improved quality of care. His own research has focused on the decision making of NHS leaders, the prevalence and incidence of non-psychotic mental illness in defined populations, the effect of organisational design, and the methods of preventing distress at work.
He has held Chief Executive positions within the UK National Health Service and been a Principal Consultant with Tribal plc. In recent years Derek Mowbray has been engaged in major organisation development programmes in the public sector, and with the investigations into conflict situations.
Professor Mowbray is a consultant and a coach and mentor at Chief Executive and Director level; he is a strong advocate of the use of psychometric assessments in personal and organisational profiling. He is also an Expert Witness in Stress at Work.
