Dr D Mason Brown

Dr David Mason Brown is a medical doctor and a founding director of In-Equilibrium.  Having practised in the NHS from 1967 until 1990, he realised that 10-minute consultations lead to short term results treating effects rather than causes. He had previously travelled as an exchange medical student to the USA in 1965 where he became increasingly aware of the strong connection between mind and body and how each person thinks and feels.  This initiated his interest in cognitive behavioural therapy and led to 20 years learning various psychotherapeutic skills.

Now a Master Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and a former member of council of the British Society of Medical and Dental Hypnosis (Scotland), he spent 12 years as Hon. Physician of Edinburgh’s ME Self Help Group.  As research has shown that 76% of these patients never get back to their original jobs, he became more and more interested in prevention, helping individuals and families take responsibility for their well-being. 

He started giving workshops fifteen years ago when Heriot Watt University revamped their MBA course, and gave the added module on personal stress and quality of life.  Since then he has delivered workshops along with one-to-ones and follow up sessions throughout the UK to schools, colleges, universities and many areas of industry.   Refer to In-Equilibrium's client list here.

Topics covered during workshops include Life Style, Quality of Life, Health and Well-Being, Energy with Mental and Physical Stamina, Work Life Balance, and Handling Change or Redundancy.  More and more participants want to learn how to switch-off, have good quality sleep and learn how to build in relaxation and recovery time whilst delivering high performance. David believes every individual is unique and can be helped as Abraham Maslow said: “To achieve their self-actualisation.”  That is different for each person, each group, each organisation, thus every workshop is unique depending on who is present. What works for one may not work for another and individuals have to be helped to maximise their own unique skills and talents at work, home and play. This leads to increased enthusiasm and motivation.

Dr Victor Frankyl said that each person in parts of their life is part of the solution, whilst in others they can be part of the problem.  The most successful, the healthiest, the happiest, gradually learn to be part of the solution in more and more areas of their lives, becoming high achievers rather than workaholics!  It is all about helping people to help themselves and those around them whether family, friends or colleagues.  Workshop exercises and CDs help maintain the momentum to handle the challenges and potential abundance of modern life.
