Websites/Resources
We found the following websites interesting:
www.britishsnoring.co.uk â€" did you know that 21-26 April is National Stop Snoring Week? So if any of you or yours suffers with, or as a result from this affliction, this website has useful information. It has snore tests to allow you to identify what kind of snorer you are, as well as tests which allow you to ascertain where the snoring is originating. www.walkjogrun.co.uk â€" a very clever website for anyone interested in either finding a new route, wanting to work out their average speed over a route, or to find out how far they’ve walked, jogged or run. You enter your postcode and you can then either plot your route to find out how far you’ve gone or look at other people’s routes for inspiration. Great for both home and away (it doesn’t stop at just the UK) â€" like a human satellite navigation system which you sadly can’t take along to keep you right on your route!Stress in the News
Average British manager works the equivalent of 40 days unpaid overtime a year - a survey of 1500 managers carried out by the Chartered Management Institute found that 89% of the managers questioned regularly worked over their contracted hours. The findings show industry, geographical and gender differences. But overall, the UK’s long working hours culture doesn’t appear to be helping either productivity or morale.
Work health balance â€" The Health Secretary, Alan Johnson, has set out plans to turn Britain’s “sick note culture†into a “well note cultureâ€. Official figures show that 9 out of 10 of those on incapacity benefit want to return to work and the Government doesn’t believe that many conditions make long-term unemployment inevitable. In a recent speech on the subject Mr Johnson set out three key steps which the Government and employers must take.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/johnson-tackles-sick-note-culture-784505.html
Report highlights rise in “work rage†- a new survey carried out by employment law firm Peninsula has shown that 4 out of 5 people have lost their temper at work, with more than two thirds saying that verbal abuse and yelling were common in their office.http://www.irishexaminer.com/breaking/business/mhojkfcwidgb/
Healthy Living “can add 14 years†– A new study based on research involving 20,000 people over a decade has shown that a combination of taking exercise, not drinking too much alcohol, eating enough fruit and vegetables and not smoking can substantially increase your life expectancy.Amanda's Column
