Recent research has determined that those who smile through brief stressful situations may help to reduce the intensity of their body’s stress response, irrespective of whether they actually feel happy.

So, the next time you are stuck in traffic or wishing a supermarket queue would vanish, try to hold your face in a smile for a moment.  It may not only be helping you psychologically but, as smiles tend to be contagious, it might also help those around you!
