Newsletter 78 – November/December 2014 features wellness

Welcome to the last edition of In Equilibrium in 2014

Tolstoy once said, “Just as a painter needs light in order to put the finishing touches to his picture, so I need an inner light, which I feel I never have enough of in the autumn”.

For all those who echo his sentiment, we may not be able to offer an instant solution but have devoted this edition to the theme of wellness and it includes:

  • News of our latest courses which could help you to deal with difficult people or end your battle with sleep
  • An easy competition which could see you win a relaxing prize
  • A practical stress tip to help with a very current problem
  • Our trainer, Louise Overy, helping a reader to get organised for the strains of the festive period and beyond in our regular Ask the Expert feature
  • Links to some handy resources and external articles which include an uplifting, short, silent video on the definition of happiness

New Courses
We have recently introduced two new courses which are both proving popular:

Dealing with difficult people
Valuable either for those at the front line of customer service or those who regularly work with a difficult personality, the skills learnt on this one day course will help participants strengthen their personal boundaries and protect their health and wellbeing in addition to aiding their motivation and productivity whilst at work.

Sleep Well: Ending your battle with sleep
In less than two hours the productivity of your organisation could be boosted by helping the, on average, 2 out of 3 employees who experience difficulty sleeping well regularly. All participants leave the session with a step-by-step strategy for tackling their sleep issues which can be implemented immediately.

New Trainer
We are delighted to welcome Human Resource specialist Michelle Spirit. Michelle has over 20 years experience of helping organisations and individuals to manage stress, build resilience and understand mental health issues. She recently presented a very successful course for the National Association of Police Well-Being Advisors (NAPWA).

Ask The Expert

Louise Overy offers advice to a reader who finds that the demands at home and work at this time of year can be overwhelming.

The Scenario
“I find this time of year fills me with dread, work is always really demanding in the lead up to year end, the thought of getting organised for Christmas makes me bury my head in the sand and the lack of daylight puts any attempt of a healthy evening walk or bike ride on the back burner. My desk at work and the kitchen table at home already have piles of paperwork containing non-urgent tasks which seem to build week on week and they are a fair representation of the constant muddle going on inside my head! Do you have any tips I could use to sort myself out and get organised for the Christmas period and beyond, as I feel this disorganisation is like a lead weight dragging behind me which affects not only my productivity but also my ability to cut off and relax.”

Expert’s Answer
Louise Overy reassures our reader that they’re not alone and suggests some practical approaches they may like to consider.
