Emotional Intelligence Training

In-House Training Courses > Emotional Intelligence Training

This interactive course enables participants to better recognise, understand and manage their own thoughts, emotions and behaviours, as well as those of others. They will learn skills to improve communication, empathy, relationships and the ability to influence others in the workplace.

Why training in Emotional Intelligence is so important

Emotional Intelligence is a key skill in developing good interpersonal skills and recognising how our behaviour impacts others. It builds self-awareness and helps us understand and manage our emotions and respond positively to challenging situations. Building effective relationships and influencing others requires insight and empathy and emotional intelligence helps us to consider the emotions of others when communicating and making decisions.

Anyone who is motivated can improve their emotional intelligence. Training in emotional intelligence increases awareness of how to build rapport with others; manage emotional responses; develop resilience; handle challenging situations and reduce the risk of stress.

Developing emotional intelligence skills benefits both employees and managers. Employees who have good emotional intelligence skills will work better in a team and have the ability to collaborate with others to creatively solve problems. Managers and Leaders will have more engaged, higher performing teams which are able to adapt to changing demands.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand what is meant by Emotional Intelligence and be motivated to build this skill to improve their performance and wellbeing
  • Be more aware of their emotions, triggers, and the impact the resultant behaviours have on themselves and others
  • Handle emotions so that they facilitate, rather than interfere, with job performance
  • Improve listening skills; better understand others' feelings and be able to take their perspective
  • Cultivate rapport and relationships with a broad diversity of people
  • Appreciate individual differences and have the confidence to handle conflict
  • Read social situations better, and communicate well to persuade, lead, negotiate and promote great teamworking

Who would benefit from attending this course?

Training in Emotional Intelligence (EI) is valuable for anyone who wants to improve their communication and influencing skills and build authentic relationships with others.

The course content and capacity can be customised for specific groups, such as managers, and to ensure organisations’ specific learning criteria are met.

Course Overview

Achieving change requires the retooling of ingrained habits of thought, feeling, and behaviour. This requires more than an intellectual understanding - knowing does not equal doing. For this reason, participants are encouraged to set their own goals based on their motivations and needs. The course content is then geared towards achieving those goals over time, using a range of practical, experiential, and reflective exercises. These outcomes are then built into a personal action plan to ensure maximum opportunity for the learning to be applied back in the workplace.

With reference to the above course structure, the content will include:

  • What is EI?
  • The benefits of developing EI as a skill in the workplace
  • Exploring the four quadrants of EI and exercises to build skills in these areas over time:
    • Self-awareness - recognise your thoughts, emotions and behaviours and how these may impact others. Understand your ‘hot-button’ moments and ways to counter these. Build self-confidence.
    • Social awareness - empathy; non-judgemental listening skills; ability to accurately read social situations and networks and take the perspective of others.
    • Self-management - impulse control, emotional regulation, managing reactions and responses. Getting things done. Being honest and adhering to one’s values.
    • Relationship management - building rapport and working relationships with others; handling conflict; effective teamwork; influencing skills and communication.
  • Action planning in relation to participant's goals
