Equality Impact Assessment Workshop

In-House Training Courses > Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) Training

This workshop is designed for those involved in the process of Equality Impact Assessments. It will equip them with the skills, confidence and practical strategies to implement and monitor the impact of an EIA.

Why is Equality Impact Assessment training so important?

An Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) is a method by which you explicitly consider what you do and how you do it through the lens of equity, diversity and inclusion. It is a structured decision making and information gathering tool to assess and record the likely and actual impact a policy, project, service or decision has in meeting the three aims of the Public Sector Equality Duty and in relation to the nine protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010 (age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief and sexual orientation, marriage, and civil partnerships).

The EIA process helps us make more inclusive decisions relating to our programmes, policies and projects, ensuring that how we design, operate and maintain our services works well for our staff, customers and stakeholders. It provides an audit trail which demonstrates how your actions support equality, diversity and inclusion; how you have pinpointed any actual or potential barriers for specific groups, and the identified actions you will take to redress any issues highlighted.

The aim of this training course is to build awareness and understanding about why and how to carry out an EIA. By following a ‘step by step’ approach, participants will build their confidence to analyse their policies, procedures and practices and proactively identify any issues which could potentially result in discrimination.

Key benefits of attending this course

  • Gain knowledge and confidence to carry out a robust EIA, through a structured approach
  • Increase awareness of protected characteristics and compliance with the Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED)
  • Understand what questions to ask, who to consult, what evidence/research to consider, when analysing a policy, project or service
  • Proactively identify potential equality impacts on different protected characteristics
  • Prevent discrimination by understanding how to analyse policies and practices through an equality lens
  • Turn knowledge into action by implementing mitigations that promote equality and inclusion
  • Know how to generate documented evidence to demonstrate a commitment to EDI in the workplace
  • Appreciate how the EIA approach can help create fairer, more inclusive workplaces

Who would benefit from attending this course?
