Interviewing Skills Training

In-House Training Courses > Interviewing Skills Training

This interactive 1-day course explores a range of interviewing skills and includes practice in techniques. Participants learn how to conduct engaging interviews, without bias, and apply a consistent approach to recruitment and selection.

Why Interviewing Skills Training is so important

A consistent approach to interviewing candidates can help to ensure that hiring decisions are transparent and fair and the best person is hired for the role. Poor hiring decisions are costly and detrimental to the success of the business. It is essential that interviewers have the necessary training and knowledge to conduct structured interviews, make unbiased judgements and apply critical thinking to evaluate responses, in order to hire the best candidates.

This 1-day workshop is highly interactive and guides participants through the interviewing process from preparing for the interview, to building rapport and questioning techniques, to evaluating evidence and decision making. Participants will learn about the pitfalls in the interview process and have the opportunity to practise techniques, based on real-life situations, to build their confidence. For hiring managers who are already experienced interviewers, this can be an opportunity for self-reflection to improve their techniques and revisit the impact of unconscious bias and discrimination on the interview process.

Key benefits of attending this course

Participants will learn how to:

  • Take a logical approach to selection interviewing using the PRICE framework and question plan
  • Plan and prepare effectively for selection interviews
  • Build and maintain appropriate rapport with candidates
  • Use a range of questioning techniques
  • Make fair judgements, based on evidence, avoiding unconscious bias and discrimination
  • Conduct selection interviews effectively, consistently and professionally
  • Manage the expectations of candidates when closing selection interviews
  • Evaluate the interview to select the best possible candidate
