A selection of workshops to promote inclusion in the workplace and help employers and employees create a neurodiversity-friendly working environment where everyone can appreciate differences and thrive.
Reasons for offering Neurodiversity Awareness training
A lack of understanding of neurodiversity in the workplace can often lead to poor teamwork/performance, misunderstandings, bullying, resignations and impact on wellbeing. Increasing awareness of neurodiversity in the workplace can result in an appreciation of the strengths and abilities of neurodiverse people and enable them to integrate and thrive in an inclusive environment.
The following short, interactive workshops increase awareness and understanding of some of the most common types of neurodiversity. Facilitated by a trainer who has lived experience of neurodiversity, these sessions can help to encourage open dialogue about how best to work alongside neurodiverse people.
- ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) Awareness in the workplace
- Autism Awareness in the workplace
- Dyspraxia/DCD (Developmental Coordination Disorder) Awareness in the workplace
- Dyslexia Awareness in the workplace
Each short course includes the following outline:
- Introduction to the particular type of neurodiversity
- Associated challenges and strengths
- How to spot signs in the workplace
- How to communicate effectively
- How to support someone in the workplace
Participants understand what adjustments and support can be put in place to improve everyday interactions, working relationships, communication and ways of working to build an inclusive workplace.
Key benefits of neurodiversity awareness training:
- Helps participants recognise and appreciate individual differences in relation to neurodiversity
- Builds awareness of different ways of working, learning styles and processing information
- Enhances problem solving and creativity through encouraging diverse views
- Increases knowledge of reasonable adjustments and changes to the working environment to improve accessibility and comfort
- Helps managers to explore the talents and strengths of neurodivergent employees and channel these in a supportive manner
- Reduces stigma, bias, discrimination and misconceptions
- Encourages acceptance by enabling open and honest discussions about neurodiversity
- Encourages patience, respect and empathy when working with neurodiverse colleagues or customers
- Improves retention of staff, job satisfaction and wellbeing
- Helps build confidence to hire neurodivergent candidates
- Increases awareness of resources and support for signposting and future reference
- Gives participants the knowledge and understanding to identify steps they can take to improve working relationships and performance
