Introduction to Mindfulness

In-House Training Courses > Introduction to Mindfulness

This 90-minute Mindfulness course introduces participants to a toolkit of practical strategies to help them juggle multiple demands, focus attention, regulate emotions and
respond to challenging or stressful situations in a considered,
non-judgemental and calm manner.

Course Context

Having been extensively researched by the scientific community for the past three decades, mindfulness is known to enable people to improve their work performance and overall wellbeing. Work-based Mindfulness training has demonstrated sustained improvements in mental health, engagement, creativity and efficiency. It has become a priority for many UK companies, the NHS and local authorities, as well as multinational companies such as Google, Intel, Nike, Goldman Sachs and Apple.

We can think of mindfulness as ‘mind gym.’ In the same way that we may exercise to be physically fit, we practise mindfulness to be mentally fit and healthy, and connected to our self and our environment. In fact, practising mindfulness techniques for just a few weeks has been shown to produce changes in the brain which result in less stress reactivity, improved concentration and focus, better interpersonal relationships and more. Better sleep is often the first thing people notice.

Our Mindfulness trainers are experienced practitioners who can engage the participants with interactive exercises to stimulate interest and learning and kick start their journey to develop their own routine mindfulness practice.

Key Benefits

This session gives participants an overview of the benefits of Mindfulness and introduces tools which they can incorporate into their routine practice, to improve their ability to:

  • pay more attention to their thoughts, feelings and behaviours
  • manage stress and strengthen resilience
  • respond to, rather than react to stressful or challenging situations
  • experience a sense of wellbeing and inner calm
  • focus on one task at a time and improve decision-making
  • increase tolerance and compassion towards others
  • relax and enjoy the present moment

Who Is It For?

Anyone in an organisation would benefit from Mindfulness Training to improve their wellbeing and self-awareness.

The course content and capacity can be customised for individuality and to ensure organisations’ specific learning criteria are met. Consultancy in mindfulness practice is also an option either as a standalone service or in conjunction with training.

Course Content

The session is facilitated in a relaxed and informal manner by an experience practitioner and gives the participants opportunities to practise several Mindfulness techniques. No specific equipment is required to attend the session and all exercises can be conducted in a seated position, or whatever is comfortable for the participants.

Course content

  • What is Mindfulness?
  • The benefits of being mindful to individuals and workplaces
  • Exploring formal and informal practice
  • The myths of meditation
  • An overview of scientific research

There is an accompanying handout outlining the exercises practised in the session, in addition to signposting to resources for those who are interested in exploring mindfulness practice in more detail.

A testimonial for the Introduction to Mindfulness Course:

"The trainer was lovely and very good at keeping us all engaged. She did an amazing job at delivering the course. I think the training has allowed me as well as many of our other staff who attended the training to know when we need to take a moment to ourselves, especially when things get hectic, and allow ourselves to breathe and get back into a head space
that allows us to feel calm and productive."

Lily Smith, HR Assistant, Gravesham Borough Council
